Pneumomediastinum, pneumopericardium, and subcutaneous emphysema—a rare complication in COVID-19 infection

Abstract Background Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a global pandemic and is posing serious public health problem for almost all countries. Spontaneous pneumomediastinum, rare condition, usually seen in patients with underlying pulmonary pathology, infections, or mechanical ventilation. pneumomediastinum complication COVID-19 pneumonia. Case presentation We report case of spontaneous pneumopericardium, subcutaneous emphysema 62-year-old diabetic patient infection who presented cough, fever, breathlessness, which turned to be fatal complication. Conclusion Pneumomediastinum/subcutaneous emphysema, not so common associated infection, should considered as bad prognostic indicator worsening hence requires early recognition careful monitoring the any possible unfavorable outcome.
