Pneumatic and acoustic suit: multimodal haptic suit for enhanced virtual reality simulation

چکیده

Abstract A haptic device provides users with physical feedback to enhance their experience in virtual reality (VR). We developed a multimodal suit, called as Pneumatic and Acoustic (PA) which exhibits high-resolution feedback, applies high pressure realistic vibration user. The PA suit artificially simulates the sensation of brief strong collisions such impact an explosion, ball, or fist. pneumatic actuators, consisting 40 air bladders, are designed bellows-type devices for vertical inflation. bladders placed on chest at equal interval distance 30 mm feedback. acoustic actuators use effective sound signal collision similar vibrations. This study aims examine effectiveness our improving VR users. recognition tests clearly show that participants distinguish between patterns position collided objects suit. user involving ball shows transmits approximate real artificial Our receiving explosion simulations confirm improves depending types contents. results prove creates distinguishable guiding task powerful hence providing high-quality simulation.

In-Suit Sensor Systems for Characterizing Human-Space Suit Interaction

Although the U.S. has studied space suit performance for decades, relatively little is known about how the astronaut moves and interacts within the space suit. We propose the use of insuit sensor systems to characterize this interaction and present our results using pressure sensors and inertial measurement units (IMUs) inside the David Clark Mobility Mock-Up and the Mark III space suit from NA...

Virtual Reality Simulation Modeling for a Haptic Glove

The recent addition of force and touch feedback to Virtual Reality simulations has enhanced their realism. Research on haptics interfaces is now extended to physical modeling of contact surfaces, object hardness, surface deformation, etc.. This is especially needed when dextrous manipulation of virtual objects is concerned. This paper describes a VR system using a haptic glove (Rutgers Master I...

Haptic Feedback for Virtual Reality

Haptic feedback is a crucial sensorial modality in virtual reality interactions. Haptics means both force feedback (simulating object hardness, weight, and inertia) and tactile feedback (simulating surface contact geometry, smoothness, slippage, and temperature). Providing such sensorial data requires desk-top or portable special-purpose hardware called haptic interfaces. Modeling physical inte...
