PLF Design for DC-DC Converters Based on Accurate IL Estimations

Even though today’s electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards and measurement techniques set specific limitations a clear methodology to measure the conducted emissions (CE) of equipment under tests (EUTs), design suitable power-line filter (PLF) solve non-compliance is, in general, neither accurate nor efficient. This is due different reasons, such as unknown actual load line impedances, dominant mode CE, and/or inappropriate instrumentation for appropriate measurements. The objective this paper investigate if topologies switching power supplies (SMPSs) lead PLF structures. For sake exemplification, analysis focused on switched-mode DC-DC converters. From an EMC point view, these devices can be completely modeled by means Scattering (S)–parameter CE Additionally, their circuit models has been performed allow better comprehension characterization. In paper, three types converters are presented, component values (including nonlinearities parasitic effects introduced behavior elements) estimated using S-parameter Then, new design, based insertion loss (IL) estimations, applied obtain optimal one experimentally tested validated.
