Plate bending fatigue tests were conducted for the Mg-9mass%Al-1mass%Zn-2mass%Ca alloy joints prepared by friction stir welding under two different conditions of stress ratio 0 and -1. The limit FSW was above 80% that base metal all test conditions. Fracture origin observed at thermo-mechanically affected zone (TMAZ) in joints. higher than inert gas (MIG) tungsten (TIG) fused (FZ) both MIG joint TIG joint. grain size second phase particle larger FZ TMAZ, hence compared with attributed to fine microstructure TMAZ
