Plasma generation by household microwave oven for surface modification and other emerging applications

A simple and inexpensive method to generate plasma using a kitchen microwave oven is described in this paper. The microwave-generated characterized by spectroscopic analysis compared with the absorption spectra of gas discharge tube. Paschen-like curve observed as initiation time plotted function pressure chamber. We have also demonstrated that air can be used multitude applications such as: (a) surface modification substrate change its wettability; (b) electrical/optical properties substrate; (c) enhancement adhesive forces for improved bonding polymeric microfluidic molds, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) chips glass covers. These techniques generation subsequent treatment may bring new opportunities leading innovations not only advanced labs, but undergraduate even high school research labs.
