PLACENTAL MALARIA IN SOME PARTS OF ANAMBRA SOUTH-EASTERN NIGERIA

In the study conducted to determine prevalence of placental malaria burden in Anambra State, Nigeria, venous and placenta blood samples were collected from 254 pregnant women screened a cross-sectional hospital – based survey. Malaria parasitaemia was diagnosed by microscopy while anaemia defined as haemoglobin concentration <12g/l. species typed using thin film parasite morphology count. Of sample tested 131 (51.6%) positive for parasite. Age significantly associated with infection (P=0.0001). The intensity showed very strong association marital status, educational level, fever (P=0.0001, respectively). Age, malaria. Advocacy pubic enlightenment on control measures adequate coverage into hinter land expectant mother ensure adherence, acceptance compliance measure.
