PKB Binding Proteins Getting in on the Akt
Protein kinase B (PKB) has emerged as the focal point for many signal transduction pathways, regulating multiple cellular processes such as glucose metabolism, transcription, apoptosis, cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and cell motility. In addition to acting as a kinase toward many substrates involved in these processes, PKB forms complexes with other proteins that are not substrates, but rat...
متن کاملThe Tall Tale of the Helicobacter pylori Blood Group Antigen Binding Proteins
The features of Helicobacter pylori adhesins, their interactions with their host counterparts, regulated and selective gene expressions are amongst the many clever strategies this microorganism undertakes to survive the otherwise sterile gastric milieu. The ingenious crafting of these interactions and the respective host reactions govern, in part, an array of consequences ranging from asympto...
متن کاملRecognition and characterization of Erythropoietin binding-proteins in the brain of mice
Objective(s): Erythropoietin (EPO), is a 34KDa glycoprotein hormone, which belongs to type 1 cytokine superfamily. EPO involves in erythrocyte maturation through inhibition of apoptosis in erythroid cells. Besides its main function, protective effects of EPO in heart and brain tissues have been reported. EPO has a critical role in development, growth, and homeostasis of brain. Furthermore EPO h...
متن کاملBINDING OF NAPROXEN TO SERUM PROTEINS IN PATIENTS WITH LIVER CIRRHOSIS AND HEALTHY INDIVIDUALS
A three-fold decrease of the in vitro ability of serum proteins to bind naproxen was shown in patients with cirrhosis of the liver compared to healthy individuals. This decrease was caused by quantitative changes in serum proteins in the sera of patients with liver damage. Lower doses of naproxen are therefore suggested in the treatment of patients with liver dysfunction.
متن کاملPI3K-PKB/Akt pathway.
Identification of the phosphoinositide-3-kinase–protein kinase B/Akt (PI3K-PKB/Akt) pathway and activating receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) began in earnest in the early 1980s through vigorous attempts to characterize insulin receptor signaling (for review, see Alessi 2001; Brazil and Hemmings 2001). These humble beginnings led to the identification of the components and mechanism of insulin re...
