Piola transformations in second-gradient continua

چکیده
Second-gradient continua are defined as those whose internal virtual work functionals depend on the first and second-gradient of displacement. These can be represented either in Lagrangian (referential) or Eulerian (spatial) description thus defining respectively Piola–Lagrange well Cauchy–Euler stress double-stress. In this paper, we deduce Piola transformation formulae, i.e., relationships between all fields relevant for formulation Principle Virtual Work. particular, derive transformations double-stress external compatible with functionals. The latter contain fact contact surface line forces double-forces.

متن کاملPushing Stochastic Gradient towards Second-Order Methods - Backpropagation Learning with Transformations in Nonlinearities
Recently, we proposed to transform the outputs of each hidden neuron in a multi-layer perceptron network to have zero output and zero slope on average, and use separate shortcut connections to model the linear dependencies instead. We continue the work by firstly introducing a third transformation to normalize the scale of the outputs of each hidden neuron, and secondly by analyzing the connect...
متن کاملDAMAGE DETECTION IN THIN PLATES USING A GRADIENT-BASED SECOND-ORDER NUMERICAL OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUE
The purpose of the present study is the damage detection in the thin plates in terms of the wide application of such structures in various branches of engineering such as structural, mechanical, aerospace, shipbuilding, etc. using gradient-based second-order numerical optimization techniques. The technique used for optimization in this study is the second-order Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm (SO...
متن کاملMotion estimation using second order gradient methods
Gradient based motion estimation techniques (GM) are considered to be in the heart of state-of-the-art registration algorithms, being able to account for both pixel and subpixel registration and to handle various motion models (translation, rotation, affine, projective). These methods estimate the motion between two images using a first order Taylor expansion of the registered images. This pape...
متن کاملOn Spatial Covariance, Second Law of Thermodynamics and Configurational Forces in Continua
This paper studies the transformation properties of the spatial balance of energy equation for a dissipative material, under the superposition of arbitrary spatial diffeomorphisms. The study reveals that for a dissipative material the transformed energy balance equation has some non-standard terms in it. These terms are related to a system of microforces with its own balance equation. These mic...
