Pinch-off of bubbles in a polymer solution

چکیده
The formation of gas bubbles in a liquid occurs various engineering processes, such as during foam generation or agitation and mixing bubbly flows. A challenge describing the initial bubble is due to singular behavior at pinch-off. Past experiments Newtonian fluids have shown that minimum neck radius follows power-law evolution shortly before break-up. exponent depends on viscosity surrounding liquid, ranges from 0.5 for low 1 large viscosity. However, viscoelastic polymer solution remains unclear, particular, if still captured by how varies with concentration. In this study, we use high-speed imaging analyze pinch-off solutions polymers. We characterize time when varying concentration thus characteristic relaxation chains, describe influence viscoelasticity Our results reveal presence polymers does not thinning until latter stages, their sufficient delays

Autocatalytic plume pinch-off.
A localized source of buoyancy flux in a nonreactive fluid medium creates a plume. The flux can be provided by either heat, a compositional difference between the fluid comprising the plume and its surroundings, or a combination of both. For autocatalytic plumes produced by the iodate-arsenous acid reaction, however, buoyancy is produced along the entire reacting interface between the plume and...

Self-similarity has been the paradigmatic picture for the pinch-off of a drop. Here we will show through high-speed imaging and boundary integral simulations that the inverse problem, the pinch-off of an air bubble in water, is not self-similar in a strict sense: A disk is quickly pulled through a water surface, leading to a giant, cylindrical void which after collapse creates an upward and a d...

Subclavian venous catheterization was previously frequently performed, but because of life-threatening complications such as hemothorax, pneumothorax, mediastinal hematoma, and myocardial injury, its use has become less common. However, this practice has some advantages in patient mobility, secured dressing, and rapidity and adequacy of vascular access. In some situations where patient comfort ...
متن کاملBubble pinch-off in a rotating flow.
We create air bubbles at the tip of a "bathtub vortex" which reaches to a finite depth. The bathtub vortex is formed by letting water drain through a small hole at the bottom of a rotating cylindrical container. The tip of the needlelike surface dip is unstable at high rotation rates and releases bubbles which are carried down by the flow. Using high-speed imaging we find that the minimal neck ...

We have used a 100 000 frame-per-second video to analyze the pinch-off of nitrogen gas bubbles in fluids with a wide range of viscosity. If the external fluid is highly viscous (eta(ext)>100 cP), the bubble neck radius is proportional to the time before break, tau, and decreases smoothly to zero. If the external fluid has low viscosity (eta(ext)<10 cP), the radius scales as tau(1/2) until an in...
