Phytotherapy for Sexually Transmitted Infections In ThabaNchu, Free State Province, South Africa

Medicinal plants have been prescribed by traditional healers for the treatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s) years. This study documents therapeutic used against STI’s in Thaba ‘Nchu, South Africa. Information was gathered through semi-structured interviews with medical practitioners between March and December 2017. on medicinal plants, their local names, uses gathered. The use value (UV) plant species, frequency citation (FC) informant consensus factor (ICF) were calculated STIs included study. Plants to treat infections such Herpes zoster (ICF=0.4) as gonorrhoea (ICF=0.11), vaginosis (ICF=0.2), symptoms HIV/AIDS (ICF=0.1) pubic lice (ICF=0.1). A total 35 species identified STIs. Most area came from families Asteraceae (21%), Fabaceae (17%), Solanaceae (13%) Hyacinthaceae (13%). Bulbinenarcissifolia, Pentanisiaprunelloides, Hypoxishemerocallidea, Scabiosa columbaria, Xysmalobiumundulatum Rumex lanceolatus, Eucomisautumnalis, Dicomaanomalaand Salvia runcinatawere frequently used. preferred method preparation remedies decoctions made roots (72%), whole leaves (7%), fruits (2%) bark which consumed orally.This contributes documentation conserve information future generations. selection most mentioned may be further phytopharmacological investigations subsequently development new antimicrobial agents global socioeconomic communities.
