Phytochemical Profile of the Methanolic Leaf Extract of Vernonia amygdalina Del. and In Vitro Anticoccidial Effect of Its Fractions against Eimeria tenella

Phytochemical screening of the crude methanolic leaf extract Vernonia amygdalina was carried out. The and its fractions were tested for in vitro anticoccidial efficacy against unsporulated oocysts Eimeria tenella by oocyst sporulation inhibition model a 96-well microtitre plate. analysis revealed presence alkaloids, tannins, saponins, glycosides, triterpenoids. Different concentrations extracts, including 250 mg/ml, 125 62.5 31.25 15.625 7.8 freshly prepared E. tenella. Triplicate assays conducted each concentration to screen activity. methanol showed activity dose-dependent manner. rate determined as effective when result more than 50% at level treatment. Only butanol fraction lowest treatment mg/ml an 55% 68%, respectively. All treatments: (100%), hexane aqueous residue (58%) active highest mg/ ml. It is concluded that had better may further be explored their properties.
