چکیده

Abstract Plectranthus barbatus Andrews (Lamiaceae) is widely distributed in the world and has a range of popular therapeutic indications. This work aimed to evaluate phytochemical characterization two leaf extracts P. barbatus, their antimicrobial, antineoplastic immunomodulatory potential. After collection, herborization obtainment aqueous extract (PBA) acetone:water 7:3 organic (PBO), was performed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The antimicrobial activity determine minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against eight bacterial strains using microdilution test fungus Trichophyton rubrum disc diffusion assay test. Cytotoxicity assessed MTT trypan blue methods normal peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) at concentrations ranged between 0.1 100 µg.mL-1 neoplastic cell lines Toledo, K562, DU-145 PANC-1 1, 10 . Immunomodulatory activity, evaluated sandwich ELISA proinflammatory cytokines BALB/c mice splenocytes cultures supernatant. Both presented flavonoids, cinnamic derivatives, steroids ellagic acid. PBO showed bacteriostatic Acinetobacter baumannii (MIC = 250 µg.mL-1) clinical isolate PBA fungistatic 800 µg.mL-1). did not exhibit toxicity PBMCs (IC50 > Additionally, significantly inhibited IFN-γ IL-17A (p 0.03). potential candidate for use due its low healthy human exhibits biological activities medical interest as bacteriostatic, immunomodulatory.

Anticonvulsant Activity of Extracts of Plectranthus barbatus Leaves in Mice

Plectranthus barbatus is a medicinal plant used to treat a wide range of disorders including seizure. However, the anticonvulsant activity of this plant has not been studied in depth. We therefore sought to evaluate the anticonvulsant activity of a hydroalcoholic extract of P. barbatus leaves on seizures induced by strychnine sulphate (2.0 mg/kg) and pilocarpine (600 mg/kg) in mice. The extract...
