Physiological analysis reveals relatively higher salt tolerance in roots of Ilex integra than in those of Ilex purpurea

Abstract Determining the responses of candidate plants to salt stress is a prerequisite for selecting and breeding suitable with high tolerance grow in coastal mudflat areas salinity. Here, 2-year cutting seedlings Ilex purpurea Hassk. (local species) I. integra Thunb. (introduced were grown pots glasshouse irrigated Hoagland-NaCl solution at 0, 24, 48 h. Root samples collected 1, 6, 72 h, concentration Na + ion; content proline, soluble carbohydrate, malondialdehyde (MDA), H 2 O ascorbate; activity three key antioxidative enzymes measured. Roots accumulated relatively less had membrane lipid peroxidation during stress, thus indicating higher than roots . Values ascorbate antioxidant enzymatic suggest that catalase may play substantial roles scavenging reactive oxygen species treatment. Thus, apparently more growing local highly saline mudflats.
