Physical drivers of sediment-water interaction on the Beaufort Sea shelf

چکیده
Climate change is causing sea ice loss on Arctic continental shelves, resulting in increases of shelf-derived materials to the Ocean. Sediment-water interaction can chemically transform water as it moves across shelf, enriching shelf waters nutrients and carbon, which impact primary productivity greenhouse gas cycling. However, drivers sediment-water Ocean are poorly understood. In this study, we use radium isotope measurements physical data from a cruise Beaufort late-October-November 2018 investigate storm events winter formation interaction. response formation, radium-228 228 Ra/ 226 Ra increased bottom waters, with both indicative enhanced exchange. cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
Report of a Physical Oceanography Research Project over the Southern Continental Shelf of the Caspian Sea
Abstract The study presents monthly variations of seawater properties, monitoring water column stability and stratification over the southern shelf of the Caspian Sea which depends on collecting data. Field measurements were carried out during 13 cruises along the southern boundary of the sea. Spatial and temporal distributions of temperature, salinity and density were investigated. Monthl...
متن کاملMesoscale Distribution of Springtime Waters and Nutrients near the Continental Shelf Break, Beaufort Sea, Alaska
Forty two sites on the Alaskan Beaufort Sea shelf break were sampled by helicopter in April 2003 for hydrographic parameters and nutrients. Mesoscale maps delineated two eddies and the Beaufort shelf break current. Higher-salinity nutrient-rich waters upwelled onto the shelf, and the depth of the main pycnocline shoaled to <22 m. A plume of 31.40-31.80 salinity water at 10 m was flowing off the...
متن کاملLimited contribution of ancient methane to surface waters of the U.S. Beaufort Sea shelf
In response to warming climate, methane can be released to Arctic Ocean sediment and waters from thawing subsea permafrost and decomposing methane hydrates. However, it is unknown whether methane derived from this sediment storehouse of frozen ancient carbon reaches the atmosphere. We quantified the fraction of methane derived from ancient sources in shelf waters of the U.S. Beaufort Sea, a reg...
