Physical, biochemical, and sensory properties of strawberries grown in high-altitude tropical climate

ABSTRACT New cultivars generated each year by international breeding programs enter the Brazilian market. These need to be tested for their adaptation climate in environment due great variety of climates that exist country. Strawberry is a highly appreciated fruit its biochemical and sensory characteristics considered most important berry. The objective this study was determine physical, biochemical, properties performing evaluation strawberry fruits, commercially cultivated South Minas Gerais region, which characterized high-altitude tropical climates. Data were analyzed, statistical parameters using principal component analysis (PCA), heat maps, dendrograms genetic profile cultivar, as well relationship. treatments analyzed variables divided into four groups based on UPGMA method. Considering aiming identify select strawberries genotypes with better properties, group III (‘Albion’ ‘Oso Grande’) selected high DPPH antioxidant activity, intermediate anthocyanin content, total phenolic compounds. Albion cultivar showed excellent attributes, especially regard levels glucose, fructose, compounds, capacity (FRAP DPPH). Based hierarchical grouping sensorial quality Camarosa had lowest scores attributes evaluated. Minas-C Oso Grande presented highest all evaluated including overall acceptance, aroma, color, purchase intention.
