Physical and numerical modelling of soil-atmosphere-structure interaction

چکیده
Extreme, extended wet and dry seasons increase the adverse effects that soil wetting drying cycles have on response of shallow geotechnical structures. In expansive soils, volumetric changes due to water content variations may result in incompatibility deformations at soil-structure interface. This study proposes a physical approach numerical model address soil-atmosphere-structure interactions during saturation desiccation. Experimental desiccation tests were performed relatively thin, compacted kaolin clay samples represent soil-atmosphere boundary. A climatic chamber was used impose atmospheric conditions air relative humidity, temperature, wind velocity, irradiance surface. Empirical mathematical expressions obtained estimate rates as function basic parameters properties. The experimental complemented with coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) for unsaturated soils. THM calculates thermal fluxes, changes, vertical stresses, compatibility movements swelling shrinking. An example capabilities is presented full-scale problem.

Numerical and Experimental Study of Soil-structure Interaction in Structures Resting on Loose Soil Using Laminar Shear Box
In the present work, the effect of Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) in low frequency structures resting on loose soil, through numerical modelling and shaking table tests have been studied. In theoretical studies two types of models namely fixed base and flexible base structure were subjected to three selected earthquake records. Nonlinear dynamic analysis was employed for all of the numerical ...
متن کاملNumerical Modelling of Traffic Induced Vibrations in Buildings Based on a Dynamic Soil-structure Interaction Formulation
ABSTRACT A numerical prediction model for road traffic induced vibrations is developed. Dynamic soilstructure interaction at the source and the structure is accounted for. The first objective is to present the essential elements of the numerical prediction model. Secondly, experimental data will be used for the validation of the numerical model. Therefore, vibration measurements in and near a s...
متن کاملModelling of Soil Structure Interaction of Integral Abutment Bridges
Integral Abutment Bridges (IAB) are defined as simple or multiple span bridges in which the bridge deck is cast monolithically with the abutment walls. This kind of bridges are becoming very popular due to different aspects such as good response under seismic loading, low initial costs, elimination of bearings, and less maintenance. However the main issue related to the analysis of this type of...
متن کاملA critical review on structure-soil-structure interaction
The purpose of this paper is to review computational methods in structure-soil-structure interaction. As a result of globalization, buildings are located close to each other. This issue happens especially in big cities, making the study of structure-soil-structure interaction as an essential part of structural design process. The effect of soil medium, on which the building structure stands, es...
متن کاملSoft Soil Seismic Design Spectra Including Soil-structure Interaction
Design spectrum is known as an essential tool in earthquake engineering for calculation of maximum (design) responses in a structural system. Soil-structure interaction (SSI), as a phenomenon of coupling of responses of a structure and its underlying soil, was explored after introduction of design spectra and has not been taken into account in developing a design spectrum traditionally. To cons...
