Physical activity and heart failure: a forgotten indicator

چکیده
Abstract Introduction Low physical activity may be associated with comorbidities, sedentary lifestyle or clinical worsening in heart failure (HF) patients. Cardiovascular implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) detect and analyse data that is often integrated multifactorial algorithms for predicting HF decompensations, but its potential probably underestimated. Purpose We hypothesized low physical-activity levels, obtained from remote monitoring of CIEDs, help predict outcomes patients, independently algorithms. Methods retrospectively evaluated consecutive patients CIEDs through assessments (two systems were used). was defined as <1 hour/day two groups defined: alerts (group 1) without 2). Primary outcome death by all causes secondary hospitalizations sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT) fibrillation (VF) episodes. Results From 121 RPM, 104 (85,9%). Mean age 63,98±12,44 years, 70,2% males follow-up 59,19±38,491 months. Fifty-four (51,9%) had cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) defibrillator (CRT-D), 46 (44,2%) transvenous cardioverter (ICD), 4 (3,8%) CRT pacemaker (CRT-P). The aetiology idiopathic 42,5% ischemic 40,2%. left ejection fraction 34,08±11,40% mean duration 2,25±1,84 hours/day. Forty-eight (53,7%) 56 (46,3%) no In group 1 period 52,978±15,75 days/year. Patients older (p=0,001), more oncological disease (p=0,041) peripheral artery (p=0,028). Three deaths occurred total, (p=0,039) frequent (1,68±2,59 vs 0,69±1,32, p=0,005). burden also atrial (r=0,473, p<0,05) number episodes VT VF (r=0,267, p=0,007). A decrease 50% activity, above hour/day, increase (1,83±2,13 1,05±1,95, p=0,006). Conclusion hospitalizations, arrhythmic events causes, basal even alert threshold, an earlier sign decompensations. Relationship between physical activity and heart failure risk in women.
BACKGROUND Physical activity is a modifiable health-related behavior shown to be associated with reduced risk of coronary heart disease and stroke. There is some evidence that this could also be the case for heart failure. We investigated whether total physical activity, as well as different domains of physical activity, was associated with heart failure risk. METHODS AND RESULTS The Swedish ...
متن کاملPleasure: a forgotten dimension of physical activity in older age.
Pleasure is an under-researched and under theorized concept within health and health-related areas, particularly in relation to physical activity in older age. This gap is addressed here. The paper forms part of a larger qualitative project conducted between March 2011 and July 2013 within which fifty-one physically active older adults (age sixty to ninety-two years) were interviewed about thei...
متن کاملDaily physical activity in stable heart failure patients.
BACKGROUND Physical activity is the only nonpharmacological therapy that is proven to be effective in heart failure (HF) patients in reducing morbidity. To date, little is known about the levels of daily physical activity in HF patients and about related factors. OBJECTIVE The objectives of this study were to (a) describe performance-based daily physical activity in HF patients, (b) compare i...
متن کاملIdentification of Nogo as a novel indicator of heart failure.
Numerous genetically engineered animal models of heart failure (HF) exhibit multiple characteristics of human HF, including aberrant beta-adrenergic signaling. Several of these HF models can be rescued by cardiac-targeted expression of the Gbetagamma inhibitory carboxy-terminus of the beta-adrenergic receptor kinase (betaARKct). We recently reported microarray analysis of gene expression in mul...
متن کاملPhysical activity: the forgotten tool for type 2 diabetes management
Individuals who are currently sedentary, unfit, or overweight can benefit metabolically from simply taking breaks from sitting. Since avoidance of sedentary behavior appears to have a large impact on glycemic management, all individuals with type 2 diabetes should be encouraged to minimally engage in greater daily movement to better manage their diabetes and body weight. In addition, engaging i...
