چکیده

Abstract Microglia are the macrophages that reside in brain. Activated microglia induces further activation of astrocytes and neuronal cells for mounting an immune response. However, activated release neurotoxic mediators causing neuroinflammation, which is associated with chronic etiology neurodegenerative diseases. We investigated effect ethanol extract Physalis alkekengi L. var. francheti fruit (PAFE) on cell death mediated by microglia. PAFE decreased NO production IL-6 secretion LPS-stimulated BV-2 primary microglial without reducing viability. Consistently, treatment iNOS COX-2 expression ERK phosphorylation cells. Finally, apoptosis N2a grown conditioned media prepared from containing was inhibited via downregulation Bax/Bcl-2 ratio. Taken together, alleviates such as Therefore, it could be a potential candidate to treat diseases caused neuroinflammation.

Mechanisms underlying neuronal death induced by chromogranin A-activated microglia.

The neurotoxic effects of activated microglia in neurodegenerative diseases are well established. We recently provided evidence that chromogranin A (CGA), a multifunctional protein localized in dystrophic neurites and in senile plaques, induces an activated phenotype and secretion of neurotoxins by rat microglia in culture. In the present study, we focused on the mechanisms underlying neuronal ...

Antibacterial and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Physalis Alkekengi var. franchetii and Its Main Constituents

This study was designed to determine whether the 50% EtOH fraction from AB-8 macroporous resin fractionation of a 70% EtOH extract of P. Alkekengi (50-EFP) has antibacterial and/or anti-inflammatory activity both in vivo and in vitro and to investigate the mechanism of 50-EFP anti-inflammatory activity. Additionally, this study sought to define the chemical composition of 50-EFP. Results indica...

Physalis alkekengi Carotenoidic Extract Inhibitor of Soybean Lipoxygenase-1 Activity

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the carotenoidic saponified extract of Physalis alkekengi sepals (PA) towards the lipoxygenase (LOX) oxidation of linoleic acid. Lipoxygenase activity in the presence of carotenoids, standard and from extract, was followed by its kinetic behaviour determining the changes in absorption at 234 nm. The standard carotenoids used were β-carotene (β...

Inhibitory Effects of Physalis alkekengi L., Alcea rosea L., Bunium persicum B. Fedtsch. and Marrubium vulgare L. on Mushroom Tyrosinase

BACKGROUND The key enzyme in the process of melanin biosynthesis is tyrosinase. Skin hyperpigmentation and browning of foods are undesirable phenomena which tyrosinase represents. Therefore, tyrosinase inhibitors have been used increasingly for medicinal and cosmetic products. OBJECTIVES In this study, inhibitory effects of four plants including: physalis alkekengi L., Alcea rosea L., Bunium ...

Two new megastigmane glycosides, physanosides A and B, from Physalis alkekengi L. var. franchetii, and their effect on NO release in macrophages.

Two new megastigmane glycosides, physanosides A and B (1 and 2, resp.), were isolated from Physalis alkekengi L. var. franchetii, together with four known compounds (6S,9R)-roseoside (3), (6S,9S)-roseoside (4), (6R,9S)-3-oxo-alpha-ionol beta-D-glucopyranoside (5), and citroside A (6). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of physicochemical evidence, in-depth NMR spectroscopic analysis,...
