چکیده
The pygmy whitefish Prosopium coulterii (C. H. Eigenmann & R. S. Eigenmann, 1892) is a freshwater fish with highly disjunct distribution ranging from the middle part of North America to Chukotka. There still no consensus regarding its phylogeny and dispersal history due limited information Chukotkan range. We investigated 22 lakes over Chukotka found much broader than it was previously thought. Pygmy be common species in that belong rivers draining into Arctic. Cytochrome B, cytochrome oxidase subunit 1, ATP synthase F0 6 mitochondrial sites were analyzed 25 samples reconstruct phylogenetic whitefish. Two haplogroups belonging east west ranges identified; both groups are closely related Alaskan pigmy distant Cascadia-Mackenzie (Peace) populations. Combining patterns, network topology, contemporary knowledge on glaciation region, we suggest possible colonization pathway Beringia region beyond it. basic biological characteristics (fork length, number gill rakers, pyloric caeca, age structure, feeding) also presented characterize populations

Coexistence and origin of trophic ecotypes of pygmy whitefish, Prosopium coulterii, in a south-western Alaskan lake.
Ecologically, morphologically and genetically distinct populations within single taxa often coexist in postglacial lakes and have provided important model systems with which to investigate ecological and evolutionary processes such as niche partitioning and ecological speciation. Within the Salmonidae, these species complexes have been well studied, particularly within the Coregonus clupeaformi...
متن کاملConnectivity among populations of pygmy whitefish (Prosopium coulterii) in northwestern North America inferred from microsatellite DNA analyses
We studied microsatellite DNA variation in 15 populations of northwestern North American pygmy whitefish (Prosopium coulterii (Eigenmann and Eigenmann, 1892)), an enigmatic freshwater fish thought to be highly fragmented by residency in deep, cold postglacial lakes. Population subdivision (q) across 10 loci was 0.12 (P < 0.001) across samples, but one western Alaskan population was more diverge...
متن کاملPhylogeography and the origins of range disjunctions in a north temperate fish, the pygmy whitefish (Prosopium coulterii), inferred from mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequence analysis
Intraspecific range disjunctions occur when a taxon has geographic occurrences that are separated by large geographic distances, and they are one of the oldest observations in biogeography (Lomolino et al., 2006). Range disjunctions have provoked much thought in biogeography because they suggest that separate geographic areas were once connected, that longdistance dispersal has occurred between...
