Phycoremediation Processes for Secondary Effluent from Sewage Treatment Plants Using Photosynthetic Microorganisms: A Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Taking into account the worrying scenario of water scarcity, it is essential to enable more efficient technologies for wastewater treatment. Wastewater may be treated by conventional biological processes that remove pathogenic organisms, particulate and soluble organic compounds, other components. However, secondary effluents from treatment plants still contain toxic elements or high concentrations inorganic nutrients (mainly nitrogen phosphorus), which growth photosynthetic microorganisms in bodies, resulting eutrophication. In this context, cultivation sewage allows removal such wastewater, reducing possibility Moreover, microalgal biomass, produced tertiary treatment, harvested different methods with potential applications, as fertilizer biofuel.

Particulate and colloidal silver in sewage effluent and sludge discharged from British wastewater treatment plants.

Differential filtration was used to measure silver (>2 nm) entering and leaving nine sewage treatment plants (STPs). The mean concentration of colloidal (2-450 nm) silver, which includes nanosilver, was found to be 12 ng L(-1) in the influent and 6 ng L(-1) in the effluent. For particulate silver (>450 nm) the mean values were 3.3 μg L(-1) for influent and 0.08 μg L(-1) for effluent. Thus, remo...

Antibiotics Removal in Biological Sewage Treatment Plants

This study investigated the occurrence and removal of 12 antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, levofloxacin, norfloxacin, nalidixic acid, azithromycin, clarithromycin, roxithromycin, lincomycin, novobiocin, sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim) at four sewage treatment plants (STPs): two STPs in Kyoto, Japan and two STPs in Beijing, China. The STPs differed in design and operation conditions, uti...

Poliovirus removal from primary and secondary sewage effluent by soil filtration.

Adsorption of poliovirus from primary sewage effluent was similar to that from secondary sewage effluent in both batch soil studies and experiments with soil columns 240 cm long. Virus desorption by distilled water was also similar in a soil column that had been flooded with either primary or secondary effluent seeded with virus. These results indicated that absorption of poliovirus from primar...

Removal of triazine herbicides from freshwater systems using photosynthetic microorganisms.

The uptake of the triazine herbicides, atrazine and terbutryn, was determined for two freshwater photosynthetic microorganisms, the green microalga Chlorella vulgaris and the cyanobacterium Synechococcus elongatus. An extremely rapid uptake of both pesticides was recorded, although uptake rate was lower for the cyanobacterium, mainly for atrazine. Other parameters related to the herbicide bioco...
