Photothermal Electrospun Nanofibers Containing Polydopamine-Coated Halloysite Nanotubes as Antibacterial Air Filters

Antibacterial air filter media offer an important solution to indoor pollution from bioaerosols, which pose a serious threat global public health. In this study, we introduced antibacterial based on nanofibers functionalized with photothermal agent, deactivates bacteria upon near-infrared (NIR) irradiation. Halloysite nanotube (HNT) clay nanoparticles coated polydopamine (PDA), heat up when exposed NIR light, were utilized as agents be incorporated into polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers. The resulting PAN/HNT-PDA reached 102 °C after 2 min of irradiation and physically destroyed Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) cells that in contact the simulated filtration test system, demonstrated bioaerosol efficiency 99.97% quality factor 0.14 Pa–1. 107S. captured killed via 10 NIR-light irradiation, whereas light-activated properties maintained over 5 flow/NIR-treatment cycles. agent-containing electrospun presented here have strong potential for aerosol removal filters.
