چکیده
Context. Near-earth objects (NEOs), thanks to their proximity, provide a unique opportunity investigate asteroids with diameters down dozens of meters. The study NEOs is also important because potential hazard the Earth. investigation small challenging from Earth as they are observable only for short time following discovery and can sometimes be reached again years or decades later. Aims. We aim derive visible colors perform an initial taxonomic classification main focus on smaller recent discoveries. Methods. Capturing near-Earth asteroids around Earth
The list of detected near-Earth asteroids (NEAs) is constantly growing. NEAs are likely targets for resources to support space industrialization, as they may be the least expensive source of certain needed raw materials. The limited supply of precious metals and semiconducting elements on Earth may be supplemented or even replaced by the reserves floating in the form of asteroids around the sol...
متن کاملEURONEAR - Data Mining of Asteroids and Near Earth Asteroids
Besides new observations, mining old photographic plates and CCD image archives represents an opportunity to recover and secure newly discovered asteroids, also to improve the orbits of Near Earth Asteroids (NEAs), Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) and Virtual Impactors (VIs). These are the main research aims of the EURONEAR network. As stated by the IAU, the vast collection of image archi...
متن کاملFuzzy Characterization of Near-Earth-Asteroids
Due to close encounters with the inner planets, Near-Earth-Asteroids (NEAs) can have very chaotic orbits. Because of this chaoticity, a statistical treatment of the dynamical properties of NEAs becomes difficult or even impossible. We propose a new way to classify NEAs by using methods from Fuzzy Logic. We demonstrate how a fuzzy characterization of NEAs can be obtained and how a subsequent ana...
متن کاملThe Albedo Distribution of near Earth Asteroids
The cryogenic Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) mission in 2010 was extremely sensitive to asteroids and not biased against detecting dark objects. The albedos of 428 near Earth asteroids (NEAs) observed by WISEduring its fully cryogenic mission can be fit quite well by a threeparameter function that is the sum of two Rayleigh distributions. The Rayleigh distribution is zero for nega...
متن کاملUnderstanding the distribution of near-earth asteroids
We have deduced the orbital and size distributions of the near-Earth asteroids (NEAs) by (i) numerically integrating NEAs from their source regions to their observed orbits, (ii) estimating the observational biases and size distribution associated with asteroids on those orbits, and (iii) creating a model population that can be fit to the known NEAs. We predict that there are approximately 900 ...
