Photocatalytic degradation of caffeine and E. coli inactivation using silver oxide nanoparticles obtained by a facile green co-reduction method

In this study, silver oxide nanoparticles (Ag2O-NPs) were synthesized from nitrate using green amaranth leaf extract as a reducing agent. The degradation of caffeine and inactivation Escherichia coli (E. coli) by Ag2O-NPs was studied under compact fluorescent lamp illumination irradiation. Apart that, the antibacterial antioxidant activities also examined. Synthesized shaped like monodispersed husk, cubic structured with surface area, average particle size detected to be 100.21 (m2/g) 81 nm, respectively. Antioxidant efficacy evaluated 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl, 91% inhibition achieved 100 µg Ag2O-NPs. Cell viability assay demonstrated that showed less cytotoxicity for human embryonic kidney (HEK 293) cells. bacteriocidic propensity examined against S. aureus P. aeruginosa disk diffusion, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), live dead assay. It observed NPs have higher bactericidal effect on Gram-negative compared Gram-positive bacteria. Up 96%, photocatalytic E. 30 µg/mL NPs. Photocatalytic (50 ppm initial concentration) 99% at pH 9 in 15 h 50 mg/L Ag2O These results indicate can employed environmental applications harmful bacteria organic pollutants degradation.
