Self-patterning Gd nano-fibers in Mg-Gd alloys
Manipulating the shape and distribution of strengthening units, e.g. particles, fibers, and precipitates, in a bulk metal, has been a widely applied strategy of tailoring their mechanical properties. Here, we report self-assembled patterns of Gd nano-fibers in Mg-Gd alloys for the purpose of improving their strength and deformability. 1-nm Gd nano-fibers, with a 〈c〉-rod shape, are formed and he...
متن کاملIn Vitro Degradation Behavior of Ternary Mg-Zn-Se and Mg-Zn-Cu Alloys as Biomaterials.
In this study, the corrosion behavior of Mg-Zn-Se and Mg-Zn-Cu alloys was investigated to evaluate their corrosion behavior related to use as implantable biomaterials. The corrosion behavior of these alloys and a commercially available Mg-Zn alloy were examined using static solution electrochemical testing, dynamic solution gravimetric testing, ion leaching testing, and microscopic evaluation. ...
متن کاملModulated Structures, Nanocrystals and Quasicrystals in Mg-Zn-Y Alloys
The formation of the icosahedral phase, BCC (Body centred cubic) phase and nanocrystals are seen in the as-cast alloy with nominal composition of Mg4Zn94Y2. FCC (face centred cubic) phase and modulated structures are formed in the alloys with higher Y content (10% and 25% Y respectively). These phases are analysed keeping in view their relation to the quasicrystals of the Mg-Zn-Y system.
متن کاملPhase-Field Modelling on the Formation Process of LPSO Structure in Mg-Y-Zn System
It has been proposed that a long-period stacking ordered (LPSO) structure is responsible for the excellent mechanical properties of lightweight alloys of Mg-Y-RE (RE: rare earth elements) system. In this study, the phenomenological simulation model for describing the formation process of the LPSO structure in MgYZn system is constructed by means of the phase-field method. The results obtained...
متن کاملQuasicrystal-reinforced Mg alloys
The formation of the icosahedral phase (I-phase) as a secondary solidification phase in Mg-Zn-Y and Mg-Zn-Al base systems provides useful advantages in designing high performance wrought magnesium alloys. The strengthening in two-phase composites (I-phase + α-Mg) can be explained by dispersion hardening due to the presence of I-phase particles and by the strong bonding property at the I-phase/m...
