Thymus munbyanus Boiss. & Reut., is a small shrub endemic to Morocco and Algeria, it commonly used treat several diseases, including digestive, circulatory, genital, skin, urinary, nervous respiratory diseases. The extracts of this thyme are rich in wide variety phenolic compounds such as polyphenols volatile phenols exhibit numerous biological activities. present review summarizes the literature investigations reported on concerning various pharmacological properties well phytochemical aspects. This species revealed richness its oils, thymol carvacrol, non-volatile acids (rosmarinic acid, caffeic salvianolic ferulic etc.), flavonoids (luteolin, gallocatechin, quercetin, isorhamnetin, etc.). Moreover, powerful antioxidant antimicrobial were for species, which attributed bioactive antioxidants. Furthermore, was found possess important nephroprotective, hepatoprotective, tumor cytotoxic properties. In conclusion, an natural source that can be developing alternative drugs treatment prevention pathologies.

The waterdistilled essential oil from dried aerial parts of one of the Algerian thymes, Thymus fontanesii Boiss. & Reut. grown in Setif province, Algeria, was analyzed by GC/MS. Fifteen components were characterized representing 99.4% of the total components detected. The major components of the oil were thymol (67.8%), gamma-terpinene (15.9%) and p-cymene (13.0%).
