Pharmacodynamic findings for the usefulness of Luffa cylindrica (L.) leaves in atherosclerosis therapy with supporting antioxidant potential

Abstract Background Luffa cylindrica (L.) is a commonly used vegetable in different parts of Asia. Its fruits are generally as vegetable, but pharmacological activities the leaves were unrevealed. The study evaluated antihyperlipidemic activity and vitro antioxidant potential methanolic extract (MELCL). was investigated Triton X-100-induced hyperlipidemic rats. Animals pre-treated with X-100 (400 mg/kg). X-100-treated animals then treated MELCL at doses 100 200 mg/kg using 5% CMC, vehicle, per oral (p.o) for 7 days. Antioxidant studied by examining DPPH hydrogen peroxide radical scavenging extract. Results plasma sample rats analyzed, it found that shows significant ( p < 0.05) MELCL. Serum analysis showed marked reduction level multiple biochemicals like total cholesterol (TC) (85.48 ± 3.230 mg/dl), triglycerides (TG) (74.62 8.764 low-density lipoproteins (LDL) (31.97 3.475 very (VLDL) (14.92 1.635 an increase high-density (HDL) (40.58 1.625 mg/dl). also (46.66 0.002%) concentration (47.55 0.001%) ?g/ml. Conclusion Quantitative results has considerable could be option treatment atherosclerosis.
