Petrography of Sandston Units in Gercus Formation, Shaqlawa and Dokan areas Northern Iraq

The present study deals with the petrographic investigations revealed that sandstone of Gercus Formation studied samples units composed primarily rock fragments (sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic), quartz grains (monocrystalline polycrystalline), feldspars (orthoclase, microcline plagioclase). These components are cemented by carbonate iron oxides. sandstones classified as litharenites, Sandstone rocks chemically mechanically unstable due to high percentage ,such a grain assemblage infers source is nearby. analyses indicate immature mineralogically because content components, such lithic feldspars. tectonic provenance for formation can be described recycled.
