چکیده
Major and trace element data are presented for Quaternary basalts from Butajira-Kibet area, close to the western escarpment of Central Main Ethiopian Rift investigate petrogenetic processes involved nature mantle source compositions. The indicate that mildly alkaline characterized by moderate high contents MgO (6.85-9.00 wt. %) TiO2 (2.40-2.92 %). In primitive mantle-normalized multi-element diagram, they exhibit troughs at Th, U, Rb K peaks Ba, Nb, Ta, La, Pb Sr with positive Eu/Eu*(1.01-1.17). Incompatible ratios e.g., Ba/Nb (8.92-16.25), Rb/Nb (0.42-0.70), K/Nb (233.00-340.00) Nb/U (47.97-61.05) suggest unaffected crustal contamination. acquired do not evidence fractionation plagioclase clinopyroxene. On other hand, relationships between major elements their (e.g., Na2O Ca2O/Al2O3) Zr/Y (La/Sm)N) partial melting a clinopyroxene - rich medium pressure. Chondrite normalized REE diagram is relatively flat HREE (TbN/YbN=1.73-2.13) significantly enriched (higher than 10-times chondritic values) patterns. LREE/MREE versus MREE/HREE modelling non-modal batch indicates formed 1.5-3% spinel peridotite minor contribution garnet-bearing peridotite. Primitive ratios, such as Nb/Zr, Nb/U, Ba/La, Rb/Zr Ba/Nb, studied affected carbonatite and/or hydrous phase metasomatism. Rather, closely similar OIB (mainly EM-I) SCLM. They most likely result significant interaction melts plume

Characterization of Water Level Variability of the Main Ethiopian Rift Valley Lakes
In this paper, the water level fluctuations of eight Ethiopian Rift Valley lakes were analyzed for their hydrological stability in terms of water level dynamics and their controlling factors. Long-term water balances and morphological nature of the lakes were used as bases for the analyses. Pettit’s homogeneity test and Mann–Kendall trend analysis were applied to test temporal variations of the...
متن کاملReview of age, Rb-Sr geochemistry and petrogenesis of Jurassic to Quaternary igneous rocks in Lut Block, Eastern Iran
The Lut Block (Eastern Iran) extends over 900 km in a north-south direction and is only 200 km wide in an east-west direction. It is confined by the Nayband fault and Shotori Range on the west. The eastern edge is bordered by the Sistan suture zone and Nehbandan Fault. The northern termination of Lut Block is the depression of Kavir-e-Namak and the Great Kavir Fault. The Makran arc, including ...
متن کاملOxygen Isotope Variations of Basaltic Lavas and Upper Mantle Rocks
This chapter summarizes the oxygen isotope geochemistry of terrestrial basalts and their mantle sources, including the conceptual framework for interpreting such data and the phenomenology of known variations. In particular, the first section outlines the motivations for and first-order results of oxygen isotope studies of terrestrial and lunar basalts over the last 30 years; the second section...
متن کاملBasaltic rocks analyzed by the Spirit Rover in Gusev Crater.
The Spirit landing site in Gusev Crater on Mars contains dark, fine-grained, vesicular rocks interpreted as lavas. Pancam and Mini-Thermal Emission Spectrometer (Mini-TES) spectra suggest that all of these rocks are similar but have variable coatings and dust mantles. Magnified images of brushed and abraded rock surfaces show alteration rinds and veins. Rock interiors contain </=25% megacrysts....
متن کاملGeochemistry and petrogenesis of basaltic flows in the Nain-Dehshir ophiolites
Diabases, pillow lavas and basaltic flows in the Nain-Dehshir ophiolites are marked with flat to slightly depleted pattern in REE chondrite-normalized diagram and are characterized by depletion in HFSE and enrichment in LILE. This geochemical behavior can be considered for lavas erupted in arc-related environments. Clinopyroxene in these rocks shows low content of TiO2 and resemble those found ...
