چکیده

Worsened state of oysters in French Arcachon Bay, demand an investigation possible causes. This study evaluated the effects environmentally relevant mixture five common pesticides on early-life stages Pacific oyster (Magallana gigas). Laboratory assays with artificial and situ transplantation were complementarily used to investigate a series sublethal endpoints. The laboratory exposure revealed developmental toxicity at 0.32 μg/L, which corresponds concentrations Bay. Downregulation some gene transcriptions was observed environmental level. No difference larvae development among three sites first evaluate locomotion exposed situ. Suspected poor water quality inner part Bay reflected by impairment molecular In conclusion, current tested hinder larval affect several biological functions.

The sense of hearing in the Pacific oyster, Magallana gigas

There is an increasing concern that anthropogenic noise could have a significant impact on the marine environment, but there is still insufficient data for most invertebrates. What do they perceive? We investigated this question in oysters Magallana gigas (Crassostrea gigas) using pure tone exposures, accelerometer fixed on the oyster shell and hydrophone in the water column. Groups of 16 oyste...

Larval and Post-Larval Stages of Pacific Oyster (Crassostrea gigas) Are Resistant to Elevated CO2

The average pH of surface oceans has decreased by 0.1 unit since industrialization and is expected to decrease by another 0.3-0.7 units before the year 2300 due to the absorption of anthropogenic CO2. This human-caused pH change is posing serious threats and challenges to the Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas), especially to their larval stages. Our knowledge of the effect of reduced pH on C. g...

In-situ microcosms, a tool for assessment of pesticide impacts on oyster spat (Crassostrea gigas).

Effects of the herbicide Basamaïs (bentazon) and the fungicide Opus (epoxiconazole) on oyster spat (Crassostrea gigas) were assessed using in-situ microcosms in a field experiment lasting 13 days. Six-week-old hatchery spat (mean size 1.1 mm), previously collected on PVC plates, was immersed in glass bottles filled with 200 mum filtered seawater. Bottles were maintained underwater at 6 m depth ...

Effects of glyphosate-based herbicides on embryo-larval development and metamorphosis in the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas.

Pesticides may be involved in oyster summer mortality events, not necessarily as a single causative agent but as an additional stressor. In this context, the present study aimed to assess the toxicity of glyphosate, its by-product, aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) and two commercial formulations, Roundup Express(®) (R(EX)) and Roundup Allées et Terrasses(®) (R(AT)), containing glyphosate as th...

A Glycoprotein in Shells of Conspecifics Induces Larval Settlement of the Pacific Oyster Crassostrea gigas

Settlement of larvae of Crassostrea gigas on shell chips (SC) prepared from shells of 11 different species of mollusks was investigated. Furthermore, the settlement inducing compound in the shell of C. gigas was extracted and subjected to various treatments to characterize the chemical cue. C. gigas larvae settled on SC of all species tested except on Patinopecten yessoensis and Atrina pinnata....
