Personality Traits and Parental Burnout Among Fathers: A Moderated Mediation Model

Abstract Focusing on a sample of fathers, this study examined the effects two personality traits, agreeableness and neuroticism, parental burnout, as well mediating role parenting sense competence moderating psychological flexibility. Data were collected from 263 fathers middle-school children in central China, with questionnaires including neuroticism subscales Big Five trait scale, Parenting Sense Competence Scale, Psychological Flexibility Parental Burnout Assessment. To analyze hypothesized moderated mediation model, bootstrapping analysis structural equation modeling performed. Results showed that was negatively correlated while positively burnout; both these relationships partially mediated by competency. Further, flexibility relationship between burnout. When low, significantly related to high, not burnout significantly. These preliminary findings provide theoretical guidance an empirical basis for intervention strategies prevent among fathers.
