Recanalization of Superficial Femoral Artery Occlusion — The Subintimal Approach
The technique of subintimal angioplasty or percutaneous intentional extraluminal angioplasty for recanalization of femoropopliteal occlusions in critical limb ischaemia is described in detail. Various indications and contraindications are outlined. The technique is easy to learn and offers a high success rate, combined with a low rate of complications.
متن کاملA Case Report of Ruptured Superficial Femoral Artery Aneurysm
Single superficial femoral artery (SFA) aneurysm is rare and occurs in approximately 5 per 100,000 patients. Rupture is a rare complication in this aneurysm. In this case report, we present the diagnostic and therapeutic work up of a ruptured SFA aneurysm of the right lower limb in a 75-year-old diabetic man with ischemic heart disease. Pre-surgical diagnosis was through physical examination fi...
متن کاملEndovascular recanalization of superficial femoral artery chronic total occlusions: A multi-disciplinary, single center experience
Purpose: The endovascular treatment of CTO in peripheral arteries is common, but little comparative effectiveness data exists to guide clinicians as to which treatment approach is better. We sought to compare procedural outcomes of superficial femoral artery (SFA) chronic total occlusion (CTO) endovascular recanalization using a primary wire approach versus a CTO recanalization device. Methods:...
متن کاملAn innovative modification of the retrograde approach to angioplasty and recanalization of the superficial femoral artery.
Endovascular therapy has been performed for chronic limb ischemia since 1964, with intraluminal and subintimal angioplasty of the superficial femoral artery (SFA) gaining popularity in the last decade (1). SFA occlusions can be managed by retrograde contralateral or antegrade ipsilateral approaches (2, 3); when these approaches fail, some practitioners resort to using a re-entry device (4, 5). ...
متن کاملTwelve months follow-up after retrograde recanalization of superficial femoral artery chronic total occlusion
INTRODUCTION Fifty percent of cases of peripheral artery disease are caused by chronic total occlusion (CTO) of the superficial femoral artery (SFA). Ten-fifteen percent of percutaneous SFA recanalization procedures are unsuccessful. In those cases the retrograde technique can increase the success rate of the procedure, but the long-term follow-up of such procedures is still unknown. AIM To a...
