Performance evaluation and comparison study of adaptive MANET service location and discovery protocols for highly dynamic environments

Abstract A critical requirement in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) is its ability to automatically discover existing services as well their locations. Several solutions have been proposed various communication domains which could be classified into two categories: (1) directory based, and (2) directory-less. The former efficient but suffers from the amount of control messages being exchanged maintain all directories an agile environment. However, latter approach attempts reduce update directories, by simply sending broadcast services; also a non-desirable MANETs. This research work builds on top our prior (Nazeeruddin et al. IFIP/IEEE international conference management multimedia networks services, Springer, Berlin, 2006)) where we introduced new protocol for service discovery MANETs (MSLD); lightweight, robust, scalable, flexible supports node heterogeneity dynamically adapts network changes while not flooding with extra messages—a major challenge today’s environments, such Internet Things (IoT). Extensive simulations study was conducted MSLD to: initially evaluate performance terms latency, availability, overhead messages, then compare Dir-Based, Dir-less, PDP protocols under conditions. For most metrics, simulation results show that outperforms either matching or achieving high low considerably less overhead.
