چکیده

The use of electric arc furnace slag (EAFS) as sole precursor to produce alkali-activated mortars has been experimentally investigated. EAFS, a by-product the steel recycling industry, is coarse material with unevenly distributed and size-extensive particles. Milling EAFS was required achieve cement-like sized powder before it could be used precursor. Different combinations sodium hydroxide (NaOH) silicate (Na2SiO3) were used, by varying Na2O/binder concentration (4%, 6%, 8%, 10%, 12%) SiO2/Na2O ratio (0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5) maximize mechanical performance. alkaline solutions prepared 24 h prior mixing unify temperatures for all mixes. results showed that strength development are directly proportional. maximum 28-day compressive obtained, after being subjected an initial thermal curing at 80 °C, 9.1 MPa in mixes 4% 2.5 SiO2/Na2O. However, additional 28 days accelerated carbonation, (i.e., 31 compared 3.9 uncarbonated mixes, corresponding 800% increase) obtained 12% 1.0 SiO2/Na2O, respectively, thus showing alteration optimal activator contents.

Influence of Mechanically Activated Electric Arc Furnace Slag on Compressive Strength of Mortars Incorporating Curing Moisture and Temperature Effects

In this study, the influence of mechanically activated electric arc furnace slag (EAFS) was investigated through compressive strength tests on 50 mm mortar cubes. The objective was to convert the wasteful EAFS into a useful binding material to reduce the cement content in concrete without compromising strength and economy. Four different groups of mortar were cast which include control mortar, ...

The Interfacial Transition Zone in Alkali-Activated Slag Mortars

The interfacial transition zone (ITZ) is known to strongly influence the mechanical and transport properties of mortars and concretes. This paper studies the ITZ between siliceous (quartz) aggregates and alkali-activated slag (AAS) binders in the context of mortar specimens. Backscattered electron (BSE) images generated in an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) are used to identif...

Effect of Na3PO4 on the Hydration Process of Alkali-Activated Blast Furnace Slag

In recent years, the utilization of different non-traditional cements and composites has been increasing. Alkali-activated cementitious materials, especially those based on the alkali activation of blast furnace slag, have considerable potential for utilization in the building industry. However, alkali-slag cements exhibit very rapid setting times, which are too short in some circumstances, and...

Electric Arc Furnace Slag and Blast Furnace Dust, Use for the Manufacture of Asphalt Concrete for Roads

This paper analyzes how feasible it is to use electric arc furnace slag as coarse aggregate, and blast furnace dust as fine aggregate in the manufacture of hot asphalt concrete for roads. Three mixtures were designed using the Ramcodes methodology, the M1 mixture of control with conventional materials, the M2 mixture replacing 50% and the M3 mixture replacing 100% of the conventional aggregates...

Fatigue Behavior Analysis of Asphalt Mixes Containing Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) Steel Slag

This research was conducted in order to evaluate fatigue behavior of asphalt mixes containing Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steel slag. After initial evaluation of the properties of EAF steel slag using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electric Microscope (SEM), six sets of laboratory mixtures were prepared. Each set were treated replacing various portions of limestone aggregates of the mix wi...
