Performance analyzes of a compact pico hydropower plant with a wide operating range

<span>This paper analyzes the performance of a pico hydropower plant consisting an axial hydro turbine integrated with permanent magnet generator (PMG) and connected to power converter. The proposed system is aimed obtain wide operation range gain more captured while maintaining time-harmonic distortion in voltage (THDv) that meets standard. PMG specification 1 kW, phase, 235 V, 50 Hz, 83 rpm. design simulation were carried out by analytical numerical calculations using FEMM 4.2. converter was simulated PSIM functions reduce THDv pass between 50–500 V. results show generating at upper lower limits passed having below 5%. Meanwhile, characteristics various currents rotations produce efficiency 87.20% nominal current. From these results, it can be concluded works well as desired.</span>
