Performance Analysis of Tunnel Boring Machines for Rock Excavation

The study takes into account different classes of tunnel boring machines (TBM), with the aim identifying correlation models which are meant to estimate, at a preliminary design phase, construction time and evaluate mechanical operational parameters TBMs, starting from knowledge length excavation diameter. To achieve this goal, first all database was created, thanks collection most meaningful technical large number tunnels; afterwards, it statistically analyzed through Microsoft Excel. In forecasting were identified for three types investigated, separately compact rocks (open TBM) fractured (single double shield TBM). Then, collected analyzed, obtaining that take account, in addition type TBM, geological aspect rock characterizing mass. Finally, validation proposed real case, represented by Moncenisio base tunnel, work included new Turin–Lyon connection line. estimated values compared ones, order verify accuracy experimental identified.
