Performance Analysis of Three-Phase Shunt Active Power Filter for Harmonic Mitigation

Aims: To carried out performance analysis of a shunt active power filter (SAPF) for harmonics mitigation.
 Study Design: Experimental design through simulation studies using P-Q Theory and proportional integral controller.
 Place Duration Study: Department Physics, Nasarawa State University Keffi, main campus, Nigeria, between October 2020 September 2021.
 Methodology: Primary secondary data were obtained AVO Digital Multimeter manufacturers’ datasheets from Schneider electric website to capture required system parameters, SAPF was designed Voltage Source Inverter model represent the Three-Phase source, with PI Control used reference current extraction. The modeled, simulated MATLAB-Simulink analyzed under different nonlinear load conditions harmonic spectrum achieve low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
 Results: THD in unbalanced voltages before application found be 12.6%, 11.4% 11.2%, while after 2.2%, 2.5% phase a, b c respectively. grid currents indicated 27.2%, 30.9% 31% 2.2% 2.1% application.
 Conclusion: use non-linear loads; has adverse effects on quality as well voltage frequency waveforms. is vital importance improving reliable supply service delivery.
