The paper describes winding failures in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) which are preferred Electric Vehicles. Drive can be designed with fault tolerance to continue operate under occurrence of faults. Winding insulation failure is responsible for some the most serious A method detecting open circuit winding, short or turn may result as a presented. Further technique continued post-fault operation drive discussed based upon mathematical model. detection operates real time without use additional sensors and sensitive enough detect presence an air-gap between turns.
