چکیده
Objective The incidence of thoracolumbar fractures is increasing in modern society concomitantly with population aging. role percutaneous vertebroplasty as a possible treatment option for remains unclear. Methods In this study, we retrospectively reviewed clinical and radiological factors, including sex, age, bone mineral density, mechanisms injury, fracture levels, the Magerl classification 101 patients (108 vertebral levels) burst that were treated vertebroplasty. Results After vertebroplasty, mean visual analog scale score immediately decreased from 6.3 to 2.7. average preoperative, postoperative, follow-up values sagittal index 9.5°, 7.6°, 10.0°, respectively. canal compromise 19.3%, 12.7%, 18.3%, No severe complications associated procedure. Canal remained stable during immediate postoperative period even after 3 months postoperatively. Conclusion Vertebroplasty promising choice fractures, symptomatic patients. Treatment of thoracolumbar burst fractures with polymethyl methacrylate vertebroplasty and short-segment pedicle screw fixation.
OBJECTIVES We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of reinforcing short-segment pedicle screw fixation with polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) vertebroplasty in patients with thoracolumbar burst fractures. METHODS We enrolled 70 patients with thoracolumbar burst fractures for treatment with short-segment pedicle screw fixation. Fractures in Group A (n = 20) were reinforced with PMMA vertebroplasty duri...
متن کاملThe treatment of osteoporotic thoracolumbar severe burst fractures with short pedicle screw fixation and vertebroplasty.
BACKGROUND To investigate the clinical and radiological results of short pedicle screw fixation and vertebroplasty in osteoporotic thoracolumbar severe burst fractures. METHODS From September 2006 to August 2010, 19 consecutive patients sustained osteoporotic thoracolumbar severe burst fractures with or without neurologic deficit and were included in this prospective study. All patients under...

Vertebroplasty, a surgical procedure developed by Galibert and Deramond in 1987, involves the injection of bone cement into a collapsed vertebral body. The main indications of vertebroplasty have been extended to painful osteoporotic compression fractures, vertebral myelomas, and metastases and so on. Several previous studies have evaluated the radiological changes in vertebral body height, kyp...
متن کاملPercutaneous vertebroplasty for osteoporotic fractures.
BACKGROUND Vertebral augmentation has been widely used to treat vertebral body compression fractures caused by varied pathologies. The lifetime risk of a vertebral body compression fracture is 16% for women and 5% for men, and exponential increase of osteoporotic fractures worldwide. PURPOSE To determine the efficacy and durability of percutaneous vertebroplasty for the treatment of back pain...
متن کاملThoracolumbar and Lumbar Burst Fractures
Approximately 79,000 spinal fractures occur annually in the United States. Roughly three out of every four fractures involve either the thoracic or the lumbar spine1,2. The most common site of injury in the thoracic and lumbar spine is the thoracolumbar junction, the mechanical transition zone between the relatively rigid thoracic spine and the more flexible lumbar region3-5. The thoracolumbar ...
