Perceptual and Acoustical assessment of voice in children with cleft lip and palate

BACKGROUND: The speech of individuals with cleft lip and palate is primarily characterized by nasality oral because or velopharyngeal dysfunction. OBJECTIVES: aim the present study to investigate acoustical assessment perceptual rating measurements in children. METHODS: participants included 30 children age range 4 12 years. Prior parental consent was obtained for inclusion their study. Speech samples all l were recorded. Prerecorded CLP groups mixed randomized played,using headphone conditions a quiet room. SLPs language pathologists rated participant. Samples given evaluation are 15 phonation /ă/, /ɪ/ /ŭ/ vowels vowel, conversation subjects (3 sentences each so total 90 sentences). RESULTS: For Phonation sample, SLP must evaluate presence hypernasality Wilcoksons scale. Acoustic analysis done using PRAAT software. spectral temporal parameters measured. Kappa coefficient 0.88 inter-rater reliability scale, 0.82 intelligibility,1.02 understandability,1.00 acceptability, which suggests substantial agreement between raters four different scales. CONCLUSION: Thus, conclude both plays an important role while assessing domain kinds stimuli.
