چکیده
Soreness due to exercise-induced muscle damage temporarily impairs motor performance. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is often used assess subtle changes in corticospinal excitability (CSE) and system input-output properties demonstrates sensitivity chronic pain. Nevertheless, the acute effects of soreness on TMS-based measures require further investigation. PURPOSE: To examine relationship between perceived CSE postural lower-extremity muscles. METHODS: 12 healthy adults (3 W, age: 27.2 ± 5.4 yr, ht: 175.6 11.0 cm, wt: 72.6 13.4 kg) completed three visits with maximal anaerobic lower extremity exercise. At start each visit, participants confirmed they abstained from any physical activity 24 hr prior, rated their overall residual using a 100 mm visual analog scale. Visits were ranked based highest lowest retained for analysis. CSE, electromyographic motor-evoked potentials (MEPs) recorded right rectus abdominis (RA) vastus lateralis (VL). Active thresholds (AMT) determined during 15% voluntary isometric force biphasic stimulator 96 curved double coil. determine ten TMS pulses applied M1 hotspot at 120% AMT resultant MEPs averaged peak-to-peak amplitude 15-65 ms post-stimulus. Paired-samples t-test mean differences soreness, AMT, MEP amplitudes. RESULTS: As expected, differed (mean difference: 25.3 mm, t = 5.08, p < 0.01). Similar motor-thresholds observed RA 0.3%, 0.26, 0.80) VL 0.5%, 0.45, 0.66). amplitudes also similar 0.13 mV, 1.74, 0.12) 0.01 0.30, 0.77). CONCLUSION: Day-to-day variation axial contractions not explained by soreness. Future work should multiple timepoints after exercise use various submaximal intensities clarify whether responsive

Perceived Muscle Soreness in Recreational Female Runners
The purpose of this study was to determine if rating of perceived exertion correlated with perceived muscle soreness during delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) in female runners. This study examined the pre and post running economy measures and perceived muscle soreness before and after a 30-min downhill run (DHR) at -15% grade and 70% of the subjects predetermined maximum oxygen uptake (VO2 p...
متن کاملViewing Instructions Accompanying Action Observation Modulate Corticospinal Excitability
Action observation interventions may have the potential to contribute to improved motor function in motor (re)learning settings by promoting functional activity and plasticity in the motor regions of the brain. Optimal methods for delivering such interventions, however, have yet to be established. This experiment investigated the effect on corticospinal excitability of manipulating the viewing ...
متن کاملEffectiveness of muscle vibration in modulating corticospinal excitability.
This study explored the effect of vibration of the forearm extensors on motor cortical excitability and the influence of stimulus duration. Sixteen healthy volunteers between 23 and 42 years old participated in one or two studies. We applied 15 or 30 min of 100 Hz, 0.5 mm-amplitude vibration to the extensor carpi radialis longus (ECRL) muscle. Cortical excitability was measured as the magnitude...
متن کاملPulsed Ultrasound Does Not Affect Recovery From Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness
Aim: To investigate the effects of pulsed Ultrasound (US) in recovery from Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS). Methods: Twelve healthy male athletes (mean age 23.83±1.697 year) performed an eccentric exercise protocol of non-dominant elbow flexors to induce muscle soreness on 2 occasions separated by 3 weeks. Subjects in experimental group received pulsed US (1 MHz, intensity 0.8 W/cm, mark s...
متن کاملStretching before or after exercise does not reduce delayed-onset muscle soreness.
BACKGROUND One reason for stretching before or after exercise is to reduce the risk of soreness after exercise.1 Delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) typically arises within the fi rst day after exercise and peaks in intensity at around 48 h.2 This review is an update of a Cochrane review fi rst published in 2007.3 A large randomised trial (2377 participants) of both pre and postexercise stretc...
