Pelagic amphipods (Crustacea, Amphipoda, Hyperiidea) from the southern Gulf of Mexico with notes on the distribution of species

Studies referring the amphipod diversity have been mainly focused on benthic environment. This study aimed to analye epipelagic fauna composition in a sector of southern Gulf Mexico (GoM). Previous records comprised oceanic province; our dataset included both and neritic zones, off several fluvial lagoon systems. The biological material 485 data total abundance 3,802 individuals. Surveys were conducted at 21 sampling stations around Veracruz Reef System National Marine Park, marine protected area GoM. As result this research, we found 16 families, 34 genera 78 species belonging suborder Hyperiidea. Our include from province (up 1,200 m depth), such as those genus Scinia , members infraorder Physosomata. In addition, Lycaeopsis zamboangae Alvarado Lagoon.
