Pediatric Open Globe Injury in a University-Based Tertiary Hospital in the Anatolian Region

Objective: Evaluation of the epidemiological and clinical features pediatric open globe injury. 
 Methods: Medical records 51 patients under age 18 who presented to emergency department with injury (OGI) between 2009 2021 were evaluated retrospectively. Patient demographics, Birmingham Eye Trauma Terminology (BETT) category, ocular trauma score (POTS), visual acuity (VA), site injury, seasonal distribution evaluated. Results: Of all included, 40 (78.4%) male, 11 (21.6%) female, mean was 9.6±5.2 years. Zone I detected in 31 (60.8%) patients. The most common cause sharp objects such as metal or wood splinters. injuries, 29 (56.9%) occurred outdoors. Ocular more frequently boys, especially summer months. Initial VA less than 0,1 21 (41.2%) patients, 0.1-0.5 9 (17.6%) 0.6 above 5 (9.8%) At final visit, 0.1 10 (19.6%) (35.3%) Final related lower increased (p:0.011). POTS scores positively correlated at visit (p=0.001). Conclusion: It is substantial for physicians have a comprehensive understanding injuries so that children suspected should be by an ophthalmologist prevent medicolegal problems.
