Pedestrian Compliance at Signalized Intersections along Major Arterials

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background: Pedestrian non-compliance at signalized crossings is unsafe and considered one of the causes pedestrian crashes. The speed limit on most major urban roads 60 km/hr or less. However, some higher in countries. In this case, situation more increases possibility fatal injuries fatalities case a crash. Therefore, it expected that pedestrians will be cautious these roads. Aim: This study aims to explore compliance intersections arterials with 80 speeds Qatar. Methods: Video data were collected for movements multiple intersections. Results: reported 68.1 percent rate locations. results also revealed 14.6 crossed during Flashing Don’t Walk interval 17.3 Steady interval. These rates are high compared other Several variables may influence pedestrians’ behavior investigated. Binary ordinal logistic regression models developed describe crossing as function variables. Conclusion: Male middle-age likely cross two intervals. analysis showed female pedestrians, elder groups, waiting before crossing, against flow comply groups. solutions proposed increase rates.

Estimating Pedestrian Volumes and Crashes at Urban Signalized Intersections

Crash prediction models are used to estimate the number of crashes using a set of explanatory variables. The highway safety community has used modeling techniques to predict vehicle-to-vehicle crashes for decades. Specifically, generalized linear models (GLMs) are commonly used because they can model non-linear count data such as motor vehicle crashes. Regression models such as the Poisson, Zer...

Quasi-induced Exposure Method for Pedestrian Safety at Signalized Intersections

To investigate pedestrian exposure when only pedestrian-crash data are available, the quasi-induced exposure method is used to identify the factors that contributed to pedestrian-vehicle crashes in Las Vegas from 2004 to 2008. The results show that overall crash severity, light conditions and weather conditions are potentially risky factors in pedestrian crashes, and the time of day or day of t...

Video-Based Monitoring of Pedestrian Movements at Signalized Intersections

Pedestrian and cyclist crossing characteristics are important for the design of urban intersections and signalized crossings. Parameters, such as waiting time, crossing time, and arrival rate are key variables for describing pedestrian characteristics and improving crossing design and signal timing plan. Manually collecting such data is often extremely labor intensive. Therefore, we introduce a...

Delay Variability at Signalized Intersections

Delays that individual vehicles may experience at a signalized intersection are usually subject to large variation due to randomness of traffic arrivals and interruption caused by traffic signal control. While such variation may have important implications for the planning, design and analysis of signal controls, currently there is no analytical model available to quantify it. This paper descri...

Speed and Delay on Signalized Arterials Speed and Delay on Signalized Arterials

This research presents a model to predict the influence of demand and capacity on the running speed of signalized arterials in Montgomery County, Maryland. The model separates the changes to link running speed due to same-direction traffic and intersection approach delay from cross traffic. It is found that flow has a small impact on link speed, each 1000 vehicles per lane per hour reduces spee...
