PEANUT ALLERGY IN ITALY: A UNIQUE ITALIAN PERSPECTIVE
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Peanut allergy has not been well characterized in Italy. Objective Our aim was to better define the clinical features of peanut Italy and detect proteins involved allergic reactions. Methods A total 22 centers participated a prospective survey over 6-month period. Clinical histories were confirmed by in vivo and/or in vitro diagnostic means all cases. Potential risk factors for occurrence considered. Levels IgE Arachis hypogea (Ara h) 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 9 profilin measured. Results 395 patients (aged 2-80 years) enrolled. Of participants, 35% reported local reactions, 38.2% systemic 26.6% experienced anaphylaxis. The sensitization profile dominated Ara h (77% sensitized it), whereas pathogenesis-related protein 10 (PR-10) 26% seed storage (SSPs). Sensitization 2S albumins 2 6) or lipid transfer (LTP) associated with more severe symptoms, PR-10 milder symptoms. Cosensitization reduced reactions both 2– LTP-sensitized patients. SSP prevailed younger LTP older (P < .01). occurred mainly northern Italy, Italy's center south. Atopic dermatitis, frequency ingestion, consumption other family members, use butter did seem be onset. Conclusions In is rare country's south north. These sensitizations mutually exclusive. picture differs from that Anglo-Saxon countries.

Significance of Peanut Allergy
The prevalence of peanut allergy (PA) in Africa is unknown but anecdotal reports suggest the prevalence to be lower than that experienced in developed countries, which report a prevalence of approximately 1.5%. Countries in Africa and Asia, as well as Israel, where the early consumption of high-dose peanut protein is routinely practised, have enjoyed a low prevalence of peanut allergy, e.g. 0.0...
متن کاملPeanut Allergy: An Overview
: Peanut allergies have been increasing in prevalence in most industrialized countries. Onset is typically in early childhood, with a trend towards earlier ages of presentation. The allergy is lifelong in most affected children, although 15-22% will outgrow their peanut allergy, usually before their teenage years. Manifestations of peanut allergy range from mild to severe, and risk factors pred...
متن کاملImmunotherapy for peanut allergy.
Peanut allergy is one of the commonest food hypersensitivities causing fatal or near-fatal reactions. There is, currently, no preventive treatment and the incidence of severe allergic reactions during peanut desensitisation has limited its clinical use. Anti-immunoglobulin E therapy has been shown to be effective in preventing peanut-induced reactions but it does not result in long-term toleran...
متن کاملPrevalence of Peanut Allergy in Offspring of Peanut Farmers
Introduction: While exposure to environmental peanut during infancy appears to promote sensitization by the epicutaneous route, early and frequent peanut ingestion during infancy may prevent peanut allergy through oral tolerance. Due to parental occupation, the offspring of peanut farmers are likely exposed to peanut protein in their environment, but they may also have early introduction into t...
متن کاملPeanut consumption in infants at risk for peanut allergy.
BACKGROUND The prevalence of peanut allergy among children in Western countries has doubled in the past 10 years, and peanut allergy is becoming apparent in Africa and Asia. We evaluated strategies of peanut consumption and avoidance to determine which strategy is most effective in preventing the development of peanut allergy in infants at high risk for the allergy. METHODS We randomly assign...
