PDG19 Prescription Opioid Use in Women during Pregnancy - A Retrospective Analysis Using Texas Medicaid Prescription Claims Data

Consequences of the opioid epidemic in general population have been widely reported peer-reviewed literature. However, few studies examined impact prescription use during pregnancy. The objectives this study were to determine: a) overall prevalence rate gestation and by trimester; b) utilization patterns opioids among women who continuously enrolled Texas Medicaid gestation. Using data from September 1, 2011 August 31, 2016, with a pregnancy outcome live birth identified. Prevalence rates gestation, as well each trimester, then determined. Finally, trends total number claims days supply across trimester determined two separate repeated measures ANOVA models. Of 315,003 meeting inclusion criteria, 46,292 had at least one claim yielding an 14.7% trimesters one, two, three 4.0%, 7.1%, 7.2%, respectively. Repeated models revealed that mean per person varied significantly (P<0.0001 for both) all trimesters, highest third lowest first. lower than prior reports based on between 2000 2010. Additionally, increased every passing trimester. Results call particular attention prescribing given related risks.
