چکیده

Abstract Actinic keratoses (AK) on the face and scalp are often extensive a major cause of morbidity associated with increased risk skin cancer. Field-directed treatment approaches, such as daylight photodynamic therapy (DPDT) required, this has been shown to be effective, well-tolerated feasible in UK between April September. We have used DPDT since 2013, good outcomes. Patient engagement indicated that convenience tolerability were rated highly efficacy, we therefore developed an entirely home-based approach ‘home (H-DPDT)’ 2021. Working art-and-design student, fully recyclable home kit enable patients self-treat H-DPDT their environment. Patients selected by dermatologist then received nurse-led training prior treatment. In-person review after second was undertaken assess response decide if further needed, telephone follow-up first third treatments. Final clinician 3–6 months last reported implementation 2021 introduced into our routine PDT service options, now wish report findings from 2021–22. Seventeen (82% male) treated 2021–2022 for AK head neck. Each patient completed average four (range 2–5) Clinical (≥ 75% response) nine 15 (60%) assessed. Response moderate one (7%) (50–75% remaining five (33%) had poor (< 50% response). Treatment success correlated grade disease. more hyperkeratotic disease poorer In 2022, responded questionnaire. Of these, two Excellent other three it Good. Four stated they tried treatments, which thought H-PDT better. One felt alternative treatments effective but tolerated Three expressed preference repeat would recommend it. This innovative enables environment, initial results showed high rates satisfaction. outcomes better those milder disease, highlighting need careful selection surface preparation. As proof concept, is therapeutic option empowers patients, may place work optimize indicated.

Daylight photodynamic therapy for actinic keratosis: an international consensus: International Society for Photodynamic Therapy in Dermatology.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an attractive therapy for non-melanoma skin cancers including actinic keratoses (AKs) because it allows treatment of large areas; it has a high response rate and results in an excellent cosmesis. However, conventional PDT for AKs is associated with inconveniently long clinic visits and discomfort during therapy. In this article, we critically review daylight-mediat...

Daylight-mediated photodynamic therapy in Spain: advantages and disadvantages.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an option for the treatment of actinic keratosis, Bowen disease, and certain types of basal cell carcinoma. It is also used to treat various other types of skin condition, including inflammatory and infectious disorders. The main disadvantages of PDT are the time it takes to administer (both for the patient and for health professionals) and the pain associated with...

Monte Carlo modelling of daylight activated photodynamic therapy.

The treatment of superficial skin lesions via daylight activated photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been explored theoretically with three dimensional (3D) Monte Carlo radiation transfer simulations. For similar parameters and conditions, daylight activated PDT was compared to conventional PDT using a commercially available light source. Under reasonable assumptions for the optical properties of th...

MAL Daylight Photodynamic Therapy for Actinic Keratosis: Clinical and Imaging Evaluation by 3D Camera

Non-melanoma skin cancer is the most common skin cancer with an incidence that varies widely worldwide. Among them, actinic keratosis (AK), considered by some authors as in situ squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), are the most common and reflect an abnormal multistep skin cell development due to the chronic ultraviolet (UV) light exposure. No ideal treatment exists, but the potential risk of their d...

Daylight Photodynamic Therapy Versus 5-Fluorouracil for the Treatment of Actinic Keratosis: A Case Series

INTRODUCTION The incidence of actinic keratosis (AK) continues to increase worldwide. Currently available options for the treatment of AK include topical 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and daylight-mediated photodynamic therapy (DL-PDT). This split-face pilot study compared DL-PDT using 16% methyl aminolevulinate (MAL) cream versus 5-FU cream in patients with AK on the face/scalp. METHODS Five male su...
