Patterns of Physical Activity Progression in Patients With COPD

چکیده

Although mean physical activity in COPD patients declines by 400–500 steps/day annually, it is unknown whether the natural progression same for all patients. We aimed to identify distinct patterns using a hypothesis-free approach and assess their determinants. pooled data from two cohorts (usual care arm of Urban Training [ NCT01897298 ] PROactive initial validation NCT01388218 studies) measuring at baseline 12 months (Dynaport MoveMonitor). identified clusters (patterns) (based on levels changes steps/day) k-means, compared sociodemographic, interpersonal, environmental, clinical psychological characteristics across patterns. In 291 (mean ± SD 68 8 years, 81% male, FEV 1 59 19% pred ) we three patterns: Inactive (n = 173 [59%], baseline: 4621 1757 steps/day, 12-month change ( ? ): ?487 1201 steps/day), Active Improvers 49 [17%], 7727 3275 : + 3378 2203 Decliners n 69 [24%], 11 267 3009 ?2217 2085 steps/day). After adjustment mixed multinomial logistic regression model as reference pattern, lower 6-min walking distance (RRR [95% CI] 0.94 [0.90–0.98] per 10 m, P .001) higher mMRC dyspnea score (1.71 [1.12–2.60] point, .012) were independently related with being Inactive. No variable was associated an Improver . The over time heterogeneous. While relate worse scores characteristics, cannot be predicted baseline. Physical activity patterns and clusters in 1001 patients with COPD

We described physical activity measures and hourly patterns in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) after stratification for generic and COPD-specific characteristics and, based on multiple physical activity measures, we identified clusters of patients. In total, 1001 patients with COPD (65% men; age, 67 years; forced expiratory volume in the first second [FEV1], 49% predi...

Physical activity in COPD patients: patterns and bouts.

The present study aims to describe the pattern of physical activity and the frequency, duration and intensity of physical activity bouts in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), to assess how these patterns differ according to COPD severity, and to explore whether these patients meet the general guidelines for physical activity for older adults. 177 patients (94% male, mea...

Physical activity in patients with COPD.

The present study aimed to measure physical activity in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) to: 1) identify the disease stage at which physical activity becomes limited; 2) investigate the relationship of clinical characteristics with physical activity; 3) evaluate the predictive power of clinical characteristics identifying very inactive patients; and 4) analyse the reli...

Barriers associated with reduced physical activity in COPD patients*

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the ability of COPD patients to perform activities of daily living (ADL); to identify barriers that prevent these individuals from performing ADL; and to correlate those barriers with dyspnea severity, six-minute walk test (6MWT), and an ADL limitation score. METHODS In COPD patients and healthy, age-matched controls, the number of steps, the distance walked, and walking...
