Patterns of Aedes aegypti abundance, survival, human-blood feeding and relationship with dengue risk, Kenya

چکیده

Dengue virus (DENV) transmission risk is influenced by the bionomic traits of key vector, Aedes aegypti . We investigated patterns abundance, survival, and human blood-feeding Ae. populations in two environments Kenya: peri-urban Rabai (coastal Region, dengue-endemic) rural Kerio Valley (Rift no reported dengue outbreak). In both environments, survival (estimated parity), was inversely correlated with vector this weather conditions, notably temperature relative humidity. Rabai, mostly fed on humans (human blood index=51%), a pattern that corroborates cases coastal region. additionally, exhibited opportunistic feeding (livestock, rodents, reptiles, birds), suggesting exposure to zoonotic pathogens via spillover events aided vector. Abundance rates were consistently lower likely related degree urbanization. Remarkably, periods high coincided rates, trend could potentially drive intense DENV at certain times year. found genetic influence anthropophagy but be potential seasonal shifts feeding. The findings study have implications for control strategies, also modeling which should integrate factors beyond abundance.

Heterogeneous Feeding Patterns of the Dengue Vector, Aedes aegypti, on Individual Human Hosts in Rural Thailand

BACKGROUND Mosquito biting frequency and how bites are distributed among different people can have significant epidemiologic effects. An improved understanding of mosquito vector-human interactions would refine knowledge of the entomological processes supporting pathogen transmission and could reveal targets for minimizing risk and breaking pathogen transmission cycles. METHODOLOGY AND PRINCI...

Characterization of dengue virus in Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus spp. of mosquitoes: A study in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

Dengue is a vector-borne disease caused by dengue virus. According to the recent report of CDC that one-third population of the world are at high risk with Dengue fever. The prevalence of the dengue hemorrhagic fever was found more in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. Aedes mosquitoes was reported as the main cause of transmission of dengue virus. So the current study was planned ...

The relationship between entomological indicators of Aedes aegypti abundance and dengue virus infection

Routine entomological monitoring data are used to quantify the abundance of Ae. aegypti. The public health utility of these indicators is based on the assumption that greater mosquito abundance increases the risk of human DENV transmission, and therefore reducing exposure to the vector decreases incidence of infection. Entomological survey data from two longitudinal cohort studies in Iquitos, P...

Protein expression in the salivary glands of dengue-infected Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and blood-feeding success.

Mosquito salivary glands (SG) play an essential role in food digestion and pathogen transmission. The function of the salivary components during infection is poorly understood. In this study, female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes were infected with dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV-2) via an artificial membrane feeding apparatus. The mosquito SGs were examined for DENV-2 infection for 14 days post-infect...
