چکیده
ABSTRACT: Glanders is a disease caused by the bacterium Burkholderia mallei that primarily affects horses, mules and donkeys. The can cause lesions in skin, lungs several other organs. However, it often manifests as an asymptomatic disease. In Brazil, serological tests of high sensitivity specificity are used to assist detection antibodies against B. contribute control due mandatory euthanasia seroreactive animals, equids with positive serology for generated great conflicts between breeders, veterinarians diagnostic laboratories. This study clarifies limitations complementary detecting mallei. It describes clinical, morphological laboratory findings 24 equines from different municipalities Mato Grosso State, which reacted complement fixation test were western blotting glanders. Data tissue samples collected horses histological, microbiological molecular analysis. 23 no clinical signs, alterations, isolation, or would characterize infection. On hand, horse without lesional alterations showed sequence amplification compatible PCR. Considering infection subject application animal sanitary defense measures that, international requirement national legislation, results tools should support sanitation procedures error bacteria Brazil.

Diagnostic Microbiology and In Polysaccharide microarray technology for the detection of Burkholderia pseudomallei and Burkholderia mallei antibodies
A polysaccharide microarray platform was prepared by immobilizing Burkholderia pseudomallei and Burkholderia mallei polysaccharides. This polysaccharide array was tested with success for detecting B. pseudomallei and B. mallei serum (human and animal) antibodies. The advantages of this microarray technology over the current serodiagnosis of the above bacterial infections were discussed. D 2006 ...
متن کاملFirst Draft Genome for a Burkholderia mallei Isolate Originating from a Glanderous Mule from Brazil
Burkholderia mallei is the etiological agent of glanders. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of Burkholderia mallei strain 16-2438_BM#8 that was isolated from a mule found dead in Pernambuco, northeast Brazil. It is the first available genomic sequence from a strain isolated on the American continent.

Burkholderia mallei lipopolysaccharide (LPS) has been previously shown to cross-react with polyclonal antibodies raised against B. pseudomallei LPS; however, we observed that B. mallei LPS does not react with a monoclonal antibody (Pp-PS-W) specific for B. pseudomallei O polysaccharide (O-PS). In this study, we identified the O-PS biosynthetic gene cluster from B. mallei ATCC 23344 and subseque...
متن کاملEvaluation of a Latex Agglutination Assay for the Identification of Burkholderia pseudomallei and Burkholderia mallei
Cases of melioidosis and glanders are rare in the United States, but the etiologic agents of each disease (Burkholderia pseudomallei and Burkholderia mallei, respectively) are classified as Tier 1 select agents because of concerns about their potential use as bioterrorism agents. A rapid, highly sensitive, and portable assay for clinical laboratories and field use is required. Our laboratory ha...
متن کاملMolecular procedure for rapid detection of Burkholderia mallei and Burkholderia pseudomallei.
A PCR procedure for the discrimination of Burkholderia mallei and Burkholderia pseudomallei was developed. It is based on the nucleotide difference T 2143 C (T versus C at position 2143) between B. mallei and B. pseudomallei detected in the 23S rDNA sequences. In comparison with conventional methods the procedure allows more rapid identification at reduced risk for infection of laboratory perso...
