چکیده

In Malaysia, stingless bees can be categorised into two genera: Melipona and Trigona, known as “kelulut”. The high demand for kelulut honey boosts the production of industry. Previous studies reported that bee (kelulut) its products were contaminated with pathogenic bacteria during harvesting processing. This research aims to isolate identify in honey. Forty-eight samples (open closed pot) propolis obtained from selected farms Terengganu by focusing on a major species available Heterotrigona itama. addition, swabbing technique was done wooden beehive evaluate environmental contamination. isolated using specifically agar, such Bacillus cereus agar (for B. cereus), Baird-Parker Staphylococcus aureus), MacConkey other bacteria), which confirmed through biochemical test. All analysed, results showed (7/48), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (10/48), Pantoea spp. (11/48), Serratia plymuthica (6/48), S. aureus (9/48) samples. study indicates cereus, P. aeruginosa, spp., plymuthica, aureus. Isolated may exist food handlers, utensils, environment. Hence, stakeholders should strictly follow good standard operating procedures guidelines industry prevent foodborne illness.

The Bacterial Communities Associated with Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) Foragers

The honey bee is a key pollinator species in decline worldwide. As part of a commercial operation, bee colonies are exposed to a variety of agricultural ecosystems throughout the year and a multitude of environmental variables that may affect the microbial balance of individuals and the hive. While many recent studies support the idea of a core microbiota in guts of younger in-hive bees, it is ...

Stingless Bee Honey, the Natural Wound Healer: A Review

Background: The stingless bee is a natural type of bee that exists in almost every continent. The honey produced by this bee has been widely used across time and space. The distinctive feature of this honey is that it is stored naturally in the pot (cerumen), thus contributing to its beneficial properties, especially in the wound healing process. Methods: In this article, several studies on sti...

Physical-Chemical Parameters of Honey of Stingless Bee (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

The objective of this study was to evaluate the physico-chemical quality of honeys samples of stingless bee (Meliponinae). Physico-chemical analyses were: moisture, color, pH, acidity, electrical conductivity, hydroxymethylfurfural, ashes, diastasic activity, reducing sugars, and sucrose. For the parameters hydroxymethylfurfural, ashes, reducing sugars and sucrose, the samples complied with the...

Effects of stingless bee and honey bee propolis on four species of bacteria.

We examined the antibacterial activities of several types of propolis, including Africanized honey bee green propolis and propolis produced by meliponini bees. The antibacterial activity of green propolis against Micrococcus luteus and Staphylococcus aureus was superior to that of Melipona quadrifasciata and Scaptotrigona sp propolis. Only two samples of propolis (green propolis and Scaptotrigo...
